Synthesis and characterization of analcime (ANA) zeolite using a kaolinitic rock

Abstract Analcime is nowadays an important component in dental porcelain systems, heterogeneous catalysis, the nanoelectronic field, selective adsorption and stomatology (dental filling prosthesis). synthesis from impure, silica-rich kaolinite rock coming Romana (Sassari, Italy) here presented. A protocol proposed that aims to make improvement of conditions compared past. The hydrothermal treatment fact achieved without aging times use sodium silicate or other additional silica source reported literature. Lower calcination temperature, temperature crystallization time are verified this work. kaolin subjected at 650 °C then mixed with NaOH. experiment performed ambient pressure 170 ± 0.1 °C. degree purity analcime calculated 97.57% 10 h. characterized by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry thermal analysis. Density also calculated. Cell parameters amount amorphous phase powders estimated quantitative analysis using combined Rietveld reference intensity ratio methods. experimental particularly attractive economic point view. Also work does not a commercial but impure kaolinitic disused quarry. This further reduces costs protocol. It gives added value, as useful mineral obtained through valorization otherwise unused georesource. Both chemical physical characterization satisfactory making very promising for industrial transfer.
